When you become an "elder"

Family gatherings were rare occasions but they were what held the family together. As the last "elder" of my husband's family died two days ago, you could feel the chain be broken. The circle of life rolls from one generation to the next. We were forced to accept that we were now the "elders" of our family. Although it can be a great honor it also comes with the realization that we are also "next" in the circle of life. We will miss you Aunt Louise but thank you for all the memories. I wrote Aunt Louise's tips on gardening and canning in my second book. To me they both had become  a "lost art". Times have changed and with all the technology there isn't much "lost art" that gets past down from generation to generation. Have you ever been in a business and they lose power. They are stopped in their tracks because they have no idea how to"fix it" on their own without googling how to. Without the cash register they seem to not know how to add things up . Learning how to survive without your electronic technology is a "lost art" that makes the situation destined to have a gloomy outcome.
