Whatever works for you is what you ought to do.
The old philosophies You can't have a feeling without first having a thought and You are what you think you are, came to my mind as I was writing my Just Flush It books. I was also inspired by the popular sayings when I was young like Stop the Insanity and Yes you can slogans. Those slogans are meant to help you understand how you should look at negative thoughts when they pop up in your mind. Then one day I saw the church sign that said "It's OK to sit on your pity potty every now and again just be sure and FLUSH when you are done." I realized that there is an endless stream of thoughts in our minds and if a negative thought pops up you got to Just Flush It out of your mind. Peace of mind really is just a FLUSH away. It has been said many ways but in the end you have to find what works for you so you can JUST FLUSH IT.
