Sheltering them from the cold wont keep them from needing a coat when they go outside

Parents naturally want to protect their children. They want to shelter them from the cold cruel people in the world we live in. But eventually they will adventure out on their own. They won't be prepared to know how to handle the people and things they will encounter if they don't know what is really out in the world. It is better to let them see how it really is and learn while you can still keep them safe so they will always be safe when you are not with them. You have to teach them how to swim so they don't sink in spite of the fact that you know there are sharks in the water.
